The action follows the discovery of numerous bogus bills submitted by intermediaries under Section 80GGC, which allows deductions for political contributions. Sources revealed that intermediaries received commissions of 5-10% for providing fake bills.

The raids focus on individuals, mainly in major cities, who fraudulently claimed deductions using fabricated invoices to reduce taxable income.
