Madras High Court Allows Indu Makkal Katchi to Garland Ambedkar Statue with Strict Conditions

  • Case Name: A Arunkumar v. The Home Secretary to Government & Ors

The Madras High Court has permitted members of the Indu Makkal Katchi to garland Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue at Ambedkar Memorial Hall in Chennai on Ambedkar Jayanti, April 14, 2025, between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM, under strict conditions.

The court granted permission after the party submitted an undertaking agreeing to abide by specific restrictions.

The conditions include barring members from raising slogans, delivering speeches, playing instruments, causing public disturbance, wearing "Kavi Dhoti," or applying Tilak, Kumkum, or Vibuthi.

The members are required to travel to the venue in a police-provided vehicle. The Court warned that any violation of these conditions would be taken seriously, and the police are authorized to initiate appropriate legal action.
