"Jobless Cockroaches": CJI Surya Kant Slams Lawyer Seeking Senior Designation

The Supreme Court strongly reprimanded a lawyer aggressively lobbying for a "Senior Advocate" designation.

A Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi criticized his professional conduct, including derogatory social media posts. The CJI drew sharp reactions by comparing certain unemployed individuals to "cockroaches" and "parasites" who resort to media, social media, or RTI activism solely to target the institutional system.

Emphasizing that senior status is an earned honor rather than an ornamental trophy, the Court also expressed serious doubts over fake law degrees in the profession, hinting at a potential CBI probe.

The petitioner apologized and withdrew his plea.
