Punjab and Haryana High Court Denies Anticipatory Bail in Cow Slaughter Case

The Punjab and Haryana High Court denied anticipatory bail to Aasif, accused of transporting cows for slaughter in violation of the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Justice Sandeep Moudgil observed that cow slaughter carries deep emotional and cultural significance in Indian society, and such acts can disturb public peace.

The Court noted Aasif’s history of similar offences and held that he misused earlier bail relief. It stressed that anticipatory bail protects the innocent, not habitual offenders, and emphasised balancing liberty with social order.

Concluding that he may reoffend or hamper investigation, the Court dismissed the plea.
