Justice Dinesh Maheshwari Appointed as a Chairperson of 23rd Law Commission of India

Justice (Retd.) Dinesh Maheshwari, former Supreme Court judge, has officially assumed charge as the Chairperson of the 23rd Law Commission of India.

The 23rd Law Commission was constituted on September 1, 2024, for a three-year term, following the end of the 22nd Law Commission’s tenure on August 31, 2024

Justice Maheshwari succeeds Justice (Retd.) Ritu Raj Awasthi, who headed the 22nd Commission, alongside members including Justice K.T. Sankaran and legal academics from across the country.

Advocate Hitesh Jain and Professor D.P. Verma (Law Faculty, BHU) are other members of the commission. Their tenure will continue until August 30, 2027.
