Ex-CJI Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar Honored with Padma Vibhushan on Republic Day

On Republic Day, former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Jagdish Singh Khehar was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour

A graduate of Panjab University, he began his legal journey in 1979 and served in various High Courts before being elevated to the Supreme Court in 2011. 

He became CJI in January 2017 and retired in August 2017, during which he delivered landmark judgments on critical issues, including the right to privacy, triple talaq, and Arunachal Pradesh President’s Rule.

During his six-year term at the Supreme Court, he authored a total of 176 judgements. He was most active in 2014 when he delivered 34 judgements and was a part of 63 benches,
