Supreme Court Judge Justice A.S. Oka retired on May 23, delivering 11 verdicts on his final working day, just two days after his mother's passing.
During his farewell speech, he said he always tried to uphold constitutional values, even though that may have upset many lawyers, and presented his image as harsh. He wanted to uphold the principles laid down in the Constitution.
He never feared offending anyone when it came to justice and followed the advice of a great judge who said ‘You are not becoming a judge to become popular.'
Justice Oka criticized the Supreme Court's "Chief Justice-centric" structure, advocating for a more democratic approach.
