Justice Rajesh Bindal Calls for Major Changes in Law College Syllabus at Bharat Shiksha Summit, 2025

At the Bharat Shiksha Summit 2025 in New Delhi, Supreme Court judge Justice Rajesh Bindal stressed the urgent need to reform India’s legal education system. He said the syllabus must shift towards more practical, hands-on learning to better equip students for real-world practice.

Justice Bindal highlighted that although there are nearly 5 lakh law students in India, the lack of qualified teachers is impacting the quality of legal education.

He also noted that only 48–49% of students are clearing the open-book Bar Council exam. 

This shows that legal education needs urgent improvement to better prepare students for real-life legal practice.
