The President of India has appointed Justice Sanjeev Kumar as the Acting Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court from April 10, 2025, following the retirement of Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan.
Justice Kumar, the senior-most judge of the High Court, was appointed under Article 223 of the Constitution. He studied B.Sc. and LL.B. at Jammu University and has served as Government Advocate and Standing Counsel.
Appointed as a permanent judge in 2017, he is known for cases like the Toshakhana matter and Assembly Dissolution.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Arun Palli as the next permanent Chief Justice.
