Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court has informed a parliamentary committee that he was not present at his official residence when the fire incident occurred and that no cash was recovered from the premises.
The submission forms part of his written response to the committee examining the impeachment motion initiated after a fire at his residence on March 14, 2025.
Justice Varma stated that he was not the first responder, and asserted that securing the scene was the responsibility of the authorities who arrived first. He also added that any lapse after the fire cannot be attributed to him.
The impeachment process continues, while the Supreme Court has reserved judgment on his challenge to the committee’s constitution.
