Justice Yashwant Varma has resigned as a judge of the Allahabad High Court, submitting his resignation to the President of India with immediate effect.
The development comes amid ongoing impeachment proceedings and an inquiry linked to allegations of unaccounted cash recovered from his official residence in Delhi.
A parliamentary panel had been constituted under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968 to investigate the charges, and proceedings were underway.
With his resignation, the removal process is likely to come to an end, as such proceedings cannot continue once a judge demits office.
