Supreme Court: Juvenile Justice Board Cannot Review or Reverse Its Own Orders

The Supreme Court ruled that the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has no authority to review or reverse its own orders in subsequent proceedings.

The court held that the JJB shift from accepting a school certificate showing a juvenile's date of birth to relying on a medical board was impermissible under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

The Court clarified that medical tests are secondary and valid documents, like school records must prevail over medical opinion under Section 94(2).

Upholding the High Court’s decision, the Court ruled that a preliminary assessment under Section 15 does not override a juvenile's statutory right to bail, especially when no evidence suggests that the juvenile poses a threat to society.
