Kapil Sibal Defends Justice Yashwant Varma, Condemns Government’s Impeachment Move in Cash-at-Home Case

Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has criticised the Centre’s move to initiate impeachment proceedings against Justice Yashwant Varma after burnt cash was allegedly found at his residence.

Calling him “one of the finest judges,” Sibal questioned why similar action was not taken against Justice Shekhar Yadav in comparable circumstances.

He pointed out the lack of concrete evidence linking Varma to the cash and called for a proper investigation.

Sibal alleged that the government’s real objective is to weaken the Collegium system and assert greater control over judicial appointments.
