The Karnataka Assembly has passed the Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Bill, 2025, aimed at providing welfare measures for over 4 lakh gig workers in the state.
The Law allows the government to levy a welfare fee of 1–5% on aggregators, with the Gig Workers’ Welfare Board empowered to frame rules and monitor compliance.
The Bill covers workers engaged in ride-sharing, food and grocery delivery, logistics, e-marketplaces, healthcare, hospitality, and related services.
The Bill provides for a welfare fund, accident and health insurance, registration of workers and platforms, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
