Karnataka Cabinet Approves Internal Reservation Within Scheduled Caste Quota

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved internal reservation within the existing 17% quota for Scheduled Castes (SCs), following the recommendations of the HN Nagamohan Das Commission.

The new formula allocates 6% each to SC-Left and SC-Right groups, and 5% to other SC communities.

The move comes after years of agitation by Dalit organisations demanding equitable distribution of reservation benefits. Officials said the decision aims to ensure social justice and balanced access to welfare measures.

The Cabinet’s decision, which differs slightly from the Commission’s proposal, will be formally tabled in the ongoing Assembly session
