The Karnataka High Court has asked the Union Government to consider extending cashless treatment under the Central Government Health Scheme for emergency and critical care cases.
The Court was hearing a petition highlighting difficulties faced by CGHS beneficiaries who are required to make upfront payments during medical emergencies and later seek reimbursement.
Observing that delays in reimbursement can cause serious hardship, the Court said the issue requires policy-level consideration by the Centre. It directed the authorities to examine the feasibility of providing cashless facilities in emergency situations and place their decision on record.
The matter has been posted for further consideration.
