Karnataka HC Directs State to Take Immediate Action Against Clinics Run by Fake Doctors Misleading Public

  • Case Name: Dr A A Muralidharswamy v State of Karnataka & Others

The Karnataka High Court directed the state government to immediately identify and shut down clinics run by unqualified individuals ("quacks"), particularly in rural areas. The court emphasized the danger posed by such fake doctors.

The directive came during the dismissal of a petition by A.A. Muralidharswamy, who sought registration for his clinic under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007.

The court found that he possesses only an SSLC qualification and a questionable certificate from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicine, and lacks any recognized medical credentials.

The court dismissed the petition and denied clinic registration, stating that the petitioner cannot call himself a doctor.
