The Karnataka High Court has stayed the proceedings in a sexual assault case filed by an aspiring male actor against filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan.
The case alleged Ranjith engaged in unnatural sex in 2012 at the Taj Hotel, which opened only in 2016, making the claim factually false.
The Court also noted the unexplained 12-year delay in filing the case, reducing its credibility.
Ranjith was booked under Section 377 of the IPC and Section 66E of the IT Act. The Court granted an interim stay on the investigation, with the next hearing set for January 17, 2025.
