The Karnataka High Court, while hearing X Corp’s (formerly Twitter) challenge to government content blocking orders, observed that “the internet never forgets”, highlighting the lasting impact of online content.
Justice M. Nagaprasanna made the remark while considering X Corp’s objections to the mandatory use of the Sahyog portal, which allegedly enables officials to issue blocking orders under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act without safeguards.
Senior Advocate KG Raghavan argued that this bypasses the structured process under Section 69A and allows arbitrary censorship. The Centre defended the portal. The matter will be heard next on July 11.
