Karnataka High Court Imposes Fine of ₹2 Lakh on Elderly Woman for Filing Frivolous Habeas Corpus Petition

The Karnataka High Court imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on a 72-year-old woman for filing a false habeas corpus petition in order to take revenge against the police.

The woman alleged that she was dissatisfied with the investigation conducted by the police when she lodged a complaint that her son had gone missing. However, it was later found that she was in constant touch with her son.

The Court noted that such malicious actions must be curbed and that it was necessary to take punitive action against such litigants.
