The Karnataka High Court has refused to quash charges under Section 504, 506, 498A, 323, 324 of the Indian Penal Code against a woman's in-laws, who are accused of torturing her.
The court stated that just because the offenses under the Dowry Prohibition Act have been dropped, the accused cannot go scot-free.
Justice M. Nagaprasanna stated that the chargesheet showed clear signs of cruelty. He also noted that while Section 498A of the IPC is sometimes misused, genuine cases of torture should not be overlooked.
Accordingly, the petition of quashing other charges was dismissed.
