Karnataka HC Issues Order in Kannada, Emphasizes Importance of Regional Language

On December 12, 2024, the Karnataka High Court made an important decision by issuing a judgment in both Kannada and English. This move aims to make court orders easier for everyone to understand. The judges, referred to Rabindranath Tagore who wrote in both Bengali and English, highlighting that legal documents should be accessible to all.

While they recognized that Article 348(1) requires English for Supreme Court and High Court proceedings, the judges emphasised the need to prioritise regional languages. 

This ruling sets a positive example for future cases and raises questions about how translations will be implemented in the courts.
