Shivaprasad, from Dakshin Kannada, printed wedding invitations stating, "Voting for Modi is the gift for my wedding." He was booked under Section 188 IPC and Section 127A of the Representation of People Act (RP Act) after a complaint by the election officer.
The message on the invitation allegedly violated the election code of conduct, but Shivaprasad argued that the invite was printed before the code of conduct was enforced and the act did not constitute an offence under Section 127A, rendering the FIR legally invalid.
The Karnataka High Court, led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, quashed the FIR and all proceedings.
