The Karnataka High Court has stayed disciplinary proceedings against an advocate accused of professional misconduct for allegedly calling a law professor "Monkey and Donkey."
The professor had filed a complaint with the Karnataka State Bar Council, leading to action against the advocate. However, the advocate’s counsel argued that the complainant was a habitual litigant and had also lodged a criminal case under Sections 323 and 504 of the IPC.
After reviewing the submissions, the court issued a notice to the respondents, stating that there was no prima facie case of professional misconduct warranting Bar Council proceedings.
