Arnab Goswami, editor of Republic TV, was booked by Bengaluru police under Section 505(2) IPC after a Congress member claimed the channel aired fake news about CM Siddaramaiah, stating traffic was halted for him, causing an ambulance delay, while he was in Mysuru.
The complainant invoked Section 505(2) IPC for promoting enmity, but Goswami’s lawyer argued that the news was quickly retracted and the complaint was exaggerated. The court found no merit in invoking Section 505(2), calling the complaint an abuse of process, and granted an interim stay on the investigation.
The Court will hear the quashing plea on January 16, 2025.
