The Karnataka High Court took suo motu cognizance of the tragic stampede near Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s IPL victory celebration, which took 11 lives and injured over 75.
The court has issued notice to the state government to explain the cause and outline future prevention measures by June 10, and questioned the absence of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
The Advocate General admitted that the crowd exceeded 2.5 lakh due to free entry.
An FIR was filed against RCB, event organisers, and the state cricket association for negligence. RCB announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each victim and aid for the injured.
