Karnataka High Court Acquits Husband in Wife’s Murder Case Over Facebook Post Allegation

The Karnataka High Court has acquitted a man sentenced to life imprisonment for his wife’s alleged murder, holding that the prosecution failed to establish a complete chain of circumstantial evidence.

The Court pointed out serious gaps in the case, including the absence of DNA identification, lack of eyewitnesses, and missing links connecting the accused to the crime.

It observed that mere suspicion, however strong, cannot take the place of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Granting the benefit of doubt, the Bench held that the conviction rested on conjectures rather than clinching evidence and reiterated the strict standards required for convictions based solely on circumstantial evidence.
