The Karnataka High Court granted the State three weeks to file objections in a 2023 PIL challenging laws mandating compulsory Kannada instruction in CBSE and CISCE schools.
A Bench expressed concern over the delay and warned that it may consider interim relief if the State fails to file objections.
Petitioners, parents of schoolchildren, contend that the laws violate constitutional rights and harm students' academic prospects and teachers' livelihoods.
While not opposing Kannada instruction per se, they argue its compulsory imposition is unconstitutional. The Court declined interim relief until the State files its response.
