Karnataka High Court Declares Century Club as Public Authority Under RTI Act

The Karnataka High Court has held that Century Club, a prestigious recreational club in Bengaluru, qualifies as a "public authority" under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.

The Court noted that the club was established on government land, received financial assistance from the state, and was governed by rules akin to public institutions.

Rejecting the club's claim that it was a private entity, the Bench observed that substantial government control and funding made it amenable to public scrutiny.

Accordingly, upholding the state commission's order, the high court dismissed the Club's plea.
