The Karnataka High Court is considering a petition seeking the framing of clear criteria governing access to archived recordings of live-streamed court proceedings. The plea was filed after a lawyer’s request for a recorded hearing, sought for academic use, was rejected.
The petitioner has challenged the rejection on the ground that the Karnataka Rules on Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings, 2021, do not clearly lay down the grounds for granting or refusing access to such recordings, leading to inconsistent decision-making.
The Court has sought responses from the High Court’s administrative side and concerned officials.
The matter will further be heard on February 6.
