The Karnataka High Court has expressed its inclination to stay the ban on bike taxi services, highlighting the state's failure to implement a regulatory framework for such operations.
The Karnataka Platform-Based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025 was introduced by the State government to safeguard the interests of gig workers on platforms such as Ola, Uber, Zepto, etc.
The observation came in light of appeals filed by cab aggregators, some individual bike taxi drivers and the Bike Taxi Welfare Association, who challenged the order to halt bike taxi services across Karnataka until suitable rules were framed.
