The Karnataka High Court is hearing a plea challenging the state government’s ban on bike taxis.
Bike owners, along with Ola, Uber, and Rapido, argued that the ban violates their fundamental right to do business under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution.
They contended that the Motor Vehicles Act allows two-wheelers to be registered as transport vehicles and the state cannot arbitrarily deny permits.
The division bench questioned why bike taxis are allowed in other states under the same law. The ban was enforced after an April order by a single judge. The matter remains under consideration.
