Karnataka High Court seeks govt's response on plea against ban on non-veg food near Tumakuru temple

The Karnataka High Court has issued notice to the state government in response to a plea by the Sri Honneshwaraswamy Devasthana Trust challenging a police directive banning consumption of non-vegetarian food within 200 metres of the Sri Honneshwara temple in Shivanagere village, Tumakuru district.

The court questioned whether the authorities had considered local customs before enforcing the restriction, which affects residents cooking and consuming food of their choice near the temple.

The plea prays for directions to the respondents not to interfere with the age-old custom of the devotees to prepare and consume non-vegetarian food away from the temple.

The matter is now pending the government’s response
