Falsely Jailed for Wife’s ‘Murder’, Karnataka Man Seeks ₹5 Crore Compensation After Acquittal

A man falsely accused of murdering his wife, who was later found alive, has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking enhancement of compensation from 1 Lakh to ₹5 crore.

Police had charged him under Sections 498A, 302, and 201 of the IPC, alleging cruelty, murder, and concealment of evidence.

The sessions court, upon confirming the wife's presence through an inquiry, acquitted him and ordered ₹1 lakh as compensation.

The petitioner stated that he spent 1.5 years in jail and endured severe reputational damage, urging the Court to recognise him as a victim rather than an accused, and to initiate action against the responsible police officials. The High Court will hear the matter at the next hearing.
