The Thiruvananthapuram ACJM has rejected the bail application of commentator Rahul Easwar, accused of disclosing the identity of a rape survivor and making sexually-coloured remarks on social media.
Easwar has been booked under Sections 72, 75(1)(iv), 79, 351(1)(2) BNS and Sections 43 & 66 IT Act.
The Court noted that the allegations were grave, the digital evidence was still being collected, and that granting bail at this stage could lead to tampering or enable the commission of further offences.
Finding the investigation to be at a preliminary stage and the accusations carrying significant seriousness, the Magistrate held that bail was not warranted.
