Kerala Consumer Forum Orders PVR to Provide Free Drinking Water in Multiplexes

The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Kerala) has directed PVR Cinemas, Lulu Mall, to provide uninterrupted, free RO-filtered drinking water to all customers during business hours.

The order came on a complaint that PVR’s policy prohibiting outside food and beverages forces patrons to buy overpriced refreshments inside the theatre.

PVR had contended that it already supplies free purified water and does not compel purchases of food, also pointing to the food court in Lulu Mall as an alternate option.

The Commission dismissed the complaint for lack of evidence but recorded PVR’s undertaking and mandated signage and maintenance of the water facility in hygienic condition.
