Kerala Govt Forms Committee to Examine Cinema Ticket Pricing: State Tells Kerala High Court

The Kerala government informed the High Court that it has formed a committee to review the regulation of ticket charges in cinemas and multiplex theatres.

The court was hearing a PIL seeking fixed ticket prices in Kerala.

The government stated that a detailed study and consultations with stakeholders are necessary before any policy decision is made. The Court directed the State to file a memo with the Government Order constituting the committee by August 14.

The petitioner contended that access to culture and leisure falls under the right to life under Article 21 and seeks directions to prescribe a maximum ticket price and to recommend a rational, fair and transparent framework for capping the prices.
