The Kerala High Court has reviewed a draft circular prepared by the State Government on preventing and managing snakebites.
A bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Shoba Annamma Eapen was hearing a plea filed after a 2019 student snakebite death.
Following court directions, a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on September 1 examined the draft, which proposes declaring snakebite a notifiable disease and exploring antivenom production for lesser-known species.
The amicus curiae and the petitioner’s counsel will provide suggestions. The matter will be heard again next Wednesday.
