Kerala High Court Directs Panchayat To Register Child’s Birth Despite Lack of Medical Records

The Kerala High Court directed the Mayyanad Grama Panchayat to register the birth of a two-year-old child despite the absence of medical records.

Justice Ziyad Rahman AA stated that the absence of medical evidence cannot be the sole ground for denying the birth registration and emphasized verifying the birth, considering the affidavits from family members confirming the child’s birth.

The court noted that the panchayat failed to conduct a proper inquiry.

Consequently, it quashed the rejection order & directed the panchayat to register the child’s birth within a month.
