The Kerala High Court has mandated strict compliance with safety norms for establishing petroleum outlets near educational institutions, emphasising that siting criteria must prioritise student safety and environmental hazards.
The ruling came in response to a petition challenging a fuel station’s proximity to a college, citing risks of accidents, pollution, and disruption.
The court directed authorities to rigorously enforce distance regulations and conduct thorough risk assessments before granting licenses.
There was a further direction to take a fresh decision on the petitioner's application within one month after providing an opportunity to the petitioner and 3rd respondent in case of any clarification.
