Kerala HC Expands Jurisdiction of Nodal Officer for Film Industry Complaints

  • Case Name: Women in Cinema Collective v. State of Kerala & ors
  • Judge(s): AK Jayasankaran Nambiar & CS Sudha
  • Advocate(s): Gopal Sankaranarayanan

The Kerala High Court allowed the nodal officer, appointed for complaints under the Hema Committee Report, to also accept complaints about women's issues in the Malayalam film industry, even if unrelated to the report. These complaints will be forwarded to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) while ensuring confidentiality.

Women Cinema Collective (WCC) requested expanding the nodal officer's jurisdiction to include complaints beyond the Hema Committee Report. The Court agreed, recognizing the need for a broader approach to tackle widespread harassment in the industry.

The Court approved the expanded jurisdiction, allowing the nodal officer to forward complaints to the SIT, considered extending the January 31 deadline, and assured confidentiality for complainants.
