Kerala HC Praises Law Students Acting as Amici Curiae in NDPS Bail Case

The Kerala High Court appointed second-year law students Nikhina Thomas and Neha Babu of Ramaiah College, Bengaluru, as amici curiae in an NDPS bail plea involving 26.92 kg ganja.

They argued that the 24-hour period under Article 22(2) begins from the effective curtailment of liberty, not the formal arrest, citing D.K. Basu and Joginder Kumar.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas accepted this interpretation, granted bail on a ₹1 lakh bond, and commended the students for their well-researched and articulate submissions.
