Kerala High Court Orders Measures to Prevent Disposal of Clothes in Pampa River During Pilgrimage

The Kerala High Court has issued comprehensive directions to prevent devotees from dumping clothes in the Pampa River during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season.

The Division Bench passed the order while considering a suo motu proceeding initiated based on a report submitted by the Sabarimala Special Commissioner.

The court ordered the installation of adequate cloth collection bins, awareness boards, and strict enforcement measures to curb pollution caused by ritualistic disposal of garments and to protect the river ecosystem.

The Bench instructed the Travancore Devaswom Board to implement the measures immediately and to file a compliance report within ten days. The matter will be taken up next on December 12, 2025.
