Kerala High Court Directs Govt to Notify Snakebite as a Reportable Disease

The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to declare snakebite a notifiable disease, mandating all healthcare facilities to report every case to health authorities.

The court created accurate data for better prevention strategies, antivenom distribution, and timely medical response.

The court emphasised that proper documentation will help reduce snakebite-related fatalities and improve public health outcomes across the state.

The meeting was eventually held on September 1, and comprehensive guidelines were formulated, which highlighted the need to focus on treatment, community engagement, health system strengthening and research with respect to snakebites.
