The Kerala High Court has reserved its verdict on rapper Vedan’s anticipatory bail plea in a rape case filed by a young doctor alleging sexual intercourse on a false promise of marriage.
Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, while hearing the matter, cautioned that courts cannot decide cases based on “popularistic views.”
The judge also noted the thin line between a failed promise of marriage and a false inducement, calling it a complex issue. Vedan argued the FIR stemmed from personal differences, not deceit.
The Court earlier granted him interim protection from arrest. Orders are awaited.
