Kerala HC said the government can't impose a service bond midway through a course

The Kerala High Court ruled that the government cannot impose a compulsory service bond on M.Sc Nursing students midway through their course.

The court emphasized the principle of "legal certainty," stating that students must be informed of such obligations before admission.

The government’s July 2024 order, requiring students to execute a bond for a teaching internship for one year, was challenged by students enrolled in 2022-23 and 2023-24 batches. 

The court found the order arbitrary, noting that the admission prospectus did not clearly mention the compulsory service.

It directed colleges to release certificates for students who completed their course without executing the bond.
