Kerala Government Reports 40 FIRs Post Justice Hema Committee Report Release on Sexual Harassment

The Kerala High Court was informed that 40 criminal cases have been registered following the Justice Hema Committee report, which exposed systemic sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry.

The court discussed a proposed draft law, "The Kerala Entertainment Industry (Equality and Empowerment) Act," to ensure fair hiring, equal wages, and better conditions.

Suggestions included forming a Kerala Entertainment Industry Regulatory Authority (KEIRA) and Tribunal (KEIT) to address disputes and workplace harassment.

The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce was implemented despite objections from the Women in Cinema Collective.

The court clarified its advisory role, with the next hearing set for February 6, 2025.
