Kerala High Court Calls for Stricter Anti-Ragging Laws After Student Suicide at Veterinary College

The Kerala High Court directed Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to resume disciplinary proceedings against its Assistant Warden and Dean, who were suspended after a 20-year-old veterinary student, Sidharthan, committed suicide, allegedly due to brutal ragging by his peers.

The court expressed disapproval for the university’s action in reinstating the officers and urged the state to enact stricter anti-ragging laws.

The court directed strict action against the responsible students and disciplinary proceedings to conclude within 3 months.

The case, involving a CBI investigation and 19 named accused, remains under judicial and administrative scrutiny.
