Kerala High Court Appoints Retired Judge to Oversee Audit of Sabarimala Temple Valuables

The Kerala High Court has appointed Justice K. T. Sankaran (retired) to supervise a comprehensive appraisal of all valuables in the Sabarimala temple.

The order came during suo motu proceedings over the alleged unauthorised removal of gold-clad copper coverings from the Dwarapalaka idols and the peedams.

The Court noted that while the Thiruvabharanam Register records offerings of gold, silver, and precious stones, there were no registers for the kodimaram, idols, or peedams, which has resulted in major documentation gaps.

The Court directed that the inventory be digitised but kept confidential, with the Travancore Devaswom Board providing necessary facilities to carry out the exercise.
