Kerala High Court Bans Media Drones and Tightens Coverage at Sabarimala Temple Premises

  • Case Name: Suo Motu v State of Kerala & ors

The Kerala High Court has banned media use of helicams at Sabarimala, citing its designation as a Special Security Zone under the Kerala Police Act, 2011.

The Division Bench of Justices Anil K Narendran and Muralee Krishna S prohibited drone usage by the media while allowing their deployment by police for crowd surveillance.

The Court also restricted tripods on railings, mandated that live telecast equipment requires advance permission, and insisted that videography in sensitive areas be decided by the Travancore Devaswom Board after consulting the chief priest.

Authorities must ensure media activities do not disturb pilgrims, issue identity cards, and regulate accommodation for reporters strictly.
